Eamonn celebrates 3 year extension as Sky Sunrise Anchor

24/11/2011

Eamonn is delighted to announce that he will continue to host his breakfast show as Sunrise anchor, after signing a three-year deal.

Eamonn said, “Being so associated with Breakfast television for so long, there is often speculation linking me to other vacancies when they occur. I have had a really exciting, fulfilling , and happy six years at Sky News and with today’s signing of a new contract , I am delighted to continue hosting “Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes” for at least another three.

Sunrise is becoming a regular fixture for more and more people to wake up to. It’s a great privilege for Charlotte, Jacquie and myself to be welcomed into so many homes as their Breakfast show of choice. But it is also a great privilege for me to work with colleagues who I not only respect, but like so much. There is no doubt our off screen friendship shines through on screen.
The news is a serious business and often quite depressing. The world is a busy place – but our viewers are busy as well. Our challenge is ,however serious, to make the story and politics of that story accessible and understandable.

We try to serve up the daily news and sport agenda in a fast, professional yet often fun way .Sunrise is different from other Breakfast shows because Sky News is the Home of Breaking News. We are simply the conduit for top news professionals in the field and our role is to do them and our newsroom colleagues justice in relaying the stories that make the world go around.”

Since Eamonn joined Sky News in 2005, Sunrise has seen viewing figures grow by 140% as well as being the most popular show on Sky News.

"Thank you for watching. I am on a week off at the moment – but hopefully I’ll see you on Monday morning from 6-9 AM"

  • Eamonn, Thursday and Friday constitutes 'weekend' for us in Saudi Arabia. Half a dozen expats phone each other at our compound on those days as Sunrise is a must for a get-together when you, James Whale and Jaqui take the air. What a fantastic combination. Persons who are not afraid to voice their opinions. THANK YOU.

  • Hello Eamon, I am sorry to say that all the ladies you have with you in a morning for me distract from the seriousness of the news and sport. Jacquie who knows her sport spent so much time positioning herself and having a look down at herself. Why do they need to look as if they are going out for the evening? The weather reader in the pink dress today could not even walk in her shoes. They all know their subject so why distract from it? Am I jealous no I am 64 but I want to listen to what is being said not at the ladies posing for the cameras.
