Flamin’ critics …… as a victim of them myself, I have my prejudices, but I’m as gullible as the next and, like most of you, get sucked in by their recommendations or condemnations. One of the reasons therefore that I didn’t go to see Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood at the Cinema was – they hated it! But needs must when it comes to picking up a DVD at Blockbuster and I thought why not on a rain drenched Saturday night? Especially as it was on Blu -Ray.
Indeed it started off as bad as they all said – with Russell’s Middle Ages English accent definitely originating somewhere in middle Ireland ! But he wasn’t the only offender – we had others in my experience from not only Middle Ireland, but Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland!
However get over that and you soon will become a Merry man – or Marion because in my humble opinion, this was the best Robin Hood film I’ve seen! Forget Kevin Costner, forget Richard Greene, even forget Errol Flynn – the adventure begins here. Action sequences – fantastic, sound – fantastic, plot – gripping, villains – hateful. Cast – Cate Blanchett, Max Von Sydow, and William Hurt amongst others …well it speaks for itself. Add the little fact that the director is Ridley Scott and I ask you what is there not to like? OK… his accent, I’ll give you that – but miss it and unlike Mr Hood, you’ll miss a bull’s-eye of a Blockbuster!
